san mateo bridge only 13 minutes. the golden gate is also very quiet coming out of marin county. >> an investigation into what caused a boat and a ferry to collide. injuring two people. is still on going. the accident happened saturday between a golden gate ferry and a 22-foot motorboat. this is video from our helicopter partnership with a-b-c-7 news. investigators were trying to determine who was at fault in the crash on the san francisco bay. according to golden gate transit, the motorboat was traveling at a high speed when it collided with the ferry. all five crew members aboard will be drug tested and placed on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation. >> an apartment fire on treasure island claiming the life of a 10-year-old girl.brings a community together. loved ones are remebering "corlina godfrey."

they held a candelight vigil where she died. she was killed saturday in a two-alarm apartment fire. it happened at around 12-15 in the morning. on the 12-hundred block of mariner drive. five people escaped. but corlina godfrey did not make it. kron four's philippe djegal with those who knew godfrey. give a shoe is a very shoes to very sweet girl. nearly 100 friends and neighbors sharing emotions for this child she attended john muir elementary. but i remember her as a sweet

elementary child who loved to read and write. she just received an award on thursday for a literary achievement. >> i have two children and it hurts, it hurts a lot. making sure her. believe she's gone. phillipe djegal, kron 4 news. >> the search is on for a castroville man who is reportedly missing with a 10-month-old boy. authorities believe he has fled to mexico. police were called to a residence in castorville over the weekend on a report of possible child abuse but could not locate 47-year-old jesus espinoza or 10-month- old angelle nergon. sunday morning investigators received information that espinoza might be on his way to mexico.

>> a convicted rapist is behind bars after fleeing to mexico. 20-year-old spencer scarber was arrested by mexican authorities in acapulco on thursday on suspicion of using a false name and identification. scarber has been wanted since fleeing fresno county back in december. three days before he was convicted of rape. robbery. and burglary charges. his father kyle scarber. an assistant chief with the c- h-p's central division. along with his mother and sister were arrested on saturday for allegedly helping scarber escape. >> watching gas prices around the nation this morning. the state average is sitting at 4-16 for a regular gallon of gas. taking a look at some of the bay area averages. in san francisco, it is just under the state average at 4-13. in oakland it's $4-05. and in san jose. it's $4-07 for a regular gallon of gas.

>> bbc reporters have walked off the job for 24 hours to protest job cuts. reporters mounted picket lines outside of the bbc's central london studios. programs went on, but many shows were disrupted. the union says poor decisions taken by the bbc leadership are leading to quality journalism being compromised. now some 2,000 jobs are at risk and 7,000 jobs have been cut since 2004. the bbc said in a statement the union's actions are disappointing but that it doesn't change the fact that the corporation must make savings targets that will require job cuts. >> maker's mark bourbon won't be watered down after all. the liquor maker announced it is reversing its decision to add water to its bourbon. the move was to help keep up with global demand. but, after hearing the outrage, maker's mark said starting today-- it will resume full-strength

bourbon production. reader's digest's parent company has filed for bankruptcy for the second time in less than 4 years. the publisher of the 91- year-old magazine, filed for bankruptcy to cut $465 million in debt and focus on north american operations as consumers shift from print to electronic media. reader's digest went public in 1990. the company previously filed for bankruptcy protection in august 2009, citing a drop in advertising spending and the debt load incurred in its acquisition. reader's digest listed both assets and debt of more than $1 billion in chapter 11 documents. >> l-g says its new smartphone with a full high- definition screen will go on sale in south korea this week and hit shelves in japan in april. the optimus g pro smartphone features a 5.5- inch screen that packs over 2 million pixels, or twice as many as smartphones with hd screens.

>> thousands across the country are protesting against the extension of an oil pipeline. kron four's philippe djegal spoke with environmentalists. and, explains why they rallied in san francisco against the keystone x-l pipeline. this is expected to go from canada to the gulf of mexico. taking a 34 of oil. they will decide in the next 60-100 days. california officials are pushing hard for money to recover the costs of fighting wildfires. for the last eight years, the state has more aggressively gone after

>> caltrans is preparing to spend 9 million-dollars for a p-r firm to sell people on riding trains. a spokesperson with caltrans says that advertising for amtrak increases the number of riders and raises the revenue for the state. caltrans has tentatively picked an outfit called "t- m-d-group" for a three-year campaign intended to boost ridership on three amtrak routes in the state, including the capitol corridor line from san jose to placer county.

amtrak carries almost 5- point-6 million passengers in the state annually, but ridership on some lines has dipped. two men who were in the process of stealing beer fired shots at a security guard in mill valley. according to police the men took two cases of beer from the safeway on redwood- highway-frontage-road. shortly before three a-m sunday morning. when a store employee approached them they took off in a gold-colored minivan. a security guard called the sheriff's office and then followed the vehicle in an attempt to get a license plate number. that's when the security guard heard four-to-five shots fired at him from the passenger side window. the security guard backed off but continued to follow the van as it fled onto highway 101. a undercover sting busts businesses in sonoma county selling alcohol to minors. round table pizza,hop monk tavern and pizzeria capri were all cited for selling alcohol to an underage decoy. employees who gave alcohol to the minors, and the businesses are being referred to the department of alcohol beverage control for administrative license violations. in national news. an idaho businessman has now lost his job after

allegedly slapping a toddler on a delta air lines flight. as of sunday, joe rickey hundley is no longer an executive at an aerospace company in idaho. an f-b-i affidavit details an alleged assault involving hundley on a flight from minneapolis to atlanta. just before landing, the toddler's mother says hundley used a racial slur while demanding she quiet the crying child. then, she says, hundley slapped the boy in the face. hundley's employer suspended him, this weekend; the company fired him on sunday, saying the allegations are contradictory to the company's values. >> a new study out this morning says that changing the channel from violent t-v shows to educational t-v can improve the behavior or preschoolers. the results from the study at seattle children's research institute says that improvement is modest and fades over time. but doctors with the study say it shows that what children watch is as important as how much they watch it. race car driver danica patrick is making nascar

with diehardarkansas authorities are reporting the death of country music star mindy mccready. the cause. an apparent suicide. deputies responded to a 9-1- 1 call sunday afternoon of gunshots fired at her home. when officers arrived they found her body on the front porch. investigators say she died of an apparent self- inflicted gunshot wound. the troubled singer struggled with addiction and mental illness. she burst onto the music scene in 1996 with her debut album "10,000 angels" and the hit "guys do it all the time". mccready leaves behind two young boys, one of them ten months old. the infant's father, record producer david wilson killed himself last month.

oakland to towards the city. just 12-30 minutes >> new in overnight news. one person was killed after crashing a stolen car while attempting to evade officers late last night. san jose police say an officer was conducting a routine traffic stop in the area of capitol expressway and towers lane when a dark colored s-u-v attempted to run the officer over around 11 p-m. the officer was able to jump out of the way, and began pursing the fleeing car. the chase went onto southbound highway 101 towards blossom hill road. eventually the driver of the car lost control and crashed in the 54-hundred block of monterey road. the driver was pronounced dead the scene. two passengers in the fleeing car were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

looking good. here on our traffic backups. everything looked good however, there was an overnight fatality. near san jose that is not impacting the freeways. there is still horror, the investigation. and the still however-the investigation and the northbound 85 and the 1 0 1. house gets ahead of them. police are searching for suspects in a shooting that happened in east palo alto. around 2:30 p-m yesterday police responded to reports of shots fired outside a home at 670 runnymede street. there they found a 30-year- old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the legs. a suspect vehicle was found nearby a short while later but was unoccupied. police are working with limited information on the suspect and the motive remains unclear.

officers. here's the latest. >> reporter: that are dozens of -- there are dozens of police officers still at the scene, and it could be that way for hours. the suspect is still at the scene. he died here after flipping the karr into a ravine. we know it started around 11:00 last night when a police officer tried to pull over an unrelated car. while talking with the first driver, he notices that the suspect comes from behind, engine just racing. he steps out of the way and does not get hit by the suspect. then the officer gets in his car and there's a short pursuit during the chase, speeds went up to 90 miles per hour. it wasn't until blossom hill road that the suspect lost
